Compline Service

St. Philips in the Hills
Tucson, AZ

Many folks, particularly during the physical, emotional, and spiritual devastation of the pandemic, are searching for meaning, for the holy, something ineffable, a stable center, “the still point of the turning world.” But stable and still are not virtues for which the noisy and topsy-turvy world is well known.

We propose to create a space in which an encounter with the holy is possible: a space that is in the midst of the community to which we desire to minister; that welcomes seekers; that invites the wounded and offers real succor; that creates new community; that is filled with prayer, incense, candlelight and chant; that is characterized by a fundamental silence, a return to the Source, Center and Spring of Life and Love.

We are planning to celebrate the ancient office of Compline in a new context and coupling that celebration with opportunities for engagement through fellowship and relationship building. We plan to develop a marketing strategy that is not only well-placed but widespread to invite as many people as possible to a liturgy and to develop a Compline liturgy that incorporates and maximizes opportunities for silence.
